Pillar 2

Publicly Accessible Database

A major activity of the global network will be to collect, archive, maintain, and publicize the data streams that flow from the global network. Couples to these new data would be existing data streams such as FAO landings data. Currently the RAM Legacy Stock Assessment database is an example of such a database and the global network is helping build a database on how fisheries are managed, national or regional governance, fisheries performance, and historical interventions. These data are assisting efforts to evaluate the performance of interventions but are also publicly available to inform other analyses.

RAM Legacy: The RAM Legacy Stock Assessment Database is a compilation of stock assessment results for commercially exploited marine populations from around the world.  Please refer to the following citation for a full description of the database:

FAO: The Food and Agricultural Organization of the United Nations provides statistics in the following areas: agriculture, forestry and fisheries, land and water resources and use, climate, environment, population, and several other areas of study.  FAO activities include developing and implementing methodologies, standardization of data collection, validation, processing, and analysis of data.
